With two promising runs under his belt, Hmas Perth confirmed he could be a smart colt in the making when landing his maiden at the Curragh for the Coolmore partners and Aidan O’Brien.
The son of Justify was co-bred by Rockhart Trading with Orpendale out of Stars At Night, already the dam of high-class Gr.2-winning miler Poker Face and American stakes winner Star Devine.
“Coming here, he had two very good runs in maidens,” said Ballydoyle representative Chris Armstrong. “He was a bit more workmanlike but, in fairness, the last half-furlong was most impressive. He’s probably ready now for a step up in trip. He’s a horse with plenty of ability. Whether he gets another run this year or not, Aidan will decide next week.
“Obviously, he’ll step up into stakes company. He has the makings of a lovely horse once he puts everything together. Still a little bit immature but once he goes up in trip he’ll be okay.”
Stars At Night has a full-brother to the winner who is catalogued as Lot 260 to Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale.
